Walton Mine

Walton is one of the named camps in Louisa County's dense Gold-Pyrite Belt inventory, on the Mineral quadrangle west of the Lake Anna country.

Virginia Energy lists Walton Mine at MRVID 171C-917 with MRDS W000462. The pin sits in a cluster with Cooper Mine and other open-pit records on the same quad. Silliman (1837) described Walton and Tinder operations during his Virginia gold tour, giving the name early belt credibility.

Walton appears in nineteenth-century company literature alongside Tinder and other Louisa camps. Sweet (1980) and Watson (1907) era summaries place it among the county's workable lode prospects. Inventory references cite Credner, Luttrell, and later DGMR compilations.

Like most Piedmont mines, Walton saw antebellum work, post-war quiet, and occasional reopenings. The inventory records inactive open-pit status on abandoned-mine lands files.
